Glossary
The following terms describe the concepts and the technical terms of the MahJong solitaire.
B
Bamboos − One of the suits of a tile set. They can be discarded from the layout by pairs of two identical tiles.
C
Characters − One of the suits of a tile set. They can be discarded from the layout by pairs of two identical tiles.
Circles − One of the suits of a tile set. They can be discarded from the layout by pairs of two identical tiles.
D
Dragons − Green, red and white. Four tiles for each. They can be discarded from the layout by pairs of two identical tiles.
F
Flowers − Four Flowers: orchid, plum, chrysanthemum and bamboo. Unique tiles. All the Flowers tiles match one another.
Free tile − A tile is free when:
- It is not covered at all by any other tile.
- There is no tiles touching it in the right or left side. This does not apply to the top or bottom of the tile.
S
Seasons − Four Seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. Four tiles for each Season. All the Seasons tiles match one another.
Suits − Bamboos, circles and characters.
T
Tile set − A complete set of 144 tiles.
W
Winds − East, South, West and North. Four tiles for each. They can be discarded from the layout by pairs of two identical tiles.
